iO Chicago, an improvisational comedy team with a corporate training unit, designed a course specifically for the litigation attorneys of Burke, Warren, MacKay & Serritella. Having been involved in improv and comedy writing, Firm partner and litigation practice chair Gerry Ring has been very interested in the potential benefits – and just plain fun – for firm attorneys in this type of workshop. The improv training emphasizes communication skills and techniques for increasing attention to detail and nuance as both listeners and speakers. It was a great outing for all involved. The program was more than just fun as it was approved by the Supreme Court of Illinois for 2.75 hours of Continuing Legal Education credit for all participants.
A Chicago Tribune writer and photographer sat in on the session and published an article on the front page of the Chicago Tribune Business Section on June 19, 2014. The article can be viewed here.
