Ed Lesniak is the current co-chair of Burke, Warren, MacKay & Serritella's Consumer Financial Services Litigation group and a former chair of the Litigation group. In addition to his general commercial litigation experience representing individuals and closely held businesses, Mr. Lesniak currently concentrates his practice in representing banks and other lenders in the litigation aspects of commercial and consumer finance transactions. His practice covers all aspects of mortgage lending, including foreclosures, deeds in lieu of foreclosure, consent foreclosure judgments, and lender liability defense in foreclosure cases. Mr. Lesniak also handles all aspects of representing mortgage lenders in bankruptcy cases, such as claims adjudications, defense of mortgage liens, defense of alleged automatic stay and discharge injunction violations, and the defense of adversary proceedings.
Throughout his forty-year career Mr. Lesniak has counseled banks and mortgage lenders on sound lending and servicing practices, having conducted numerous in-house seminars for clients, in addition to lecturing for industry groups such as the Illinois Bankers Association. On two occasions he has been a featured speaker at a national bankruptcy summit conducted by one of the largest national banks in the United States
In his practice Mr. Lesniak has represented banks and mortgage lenders in lawsuits throughout the United States, including state and federal courts in Illinois and the federal district courts and bankruptcy courts in New York, Massachusetts, Florida, Alabama, Indiana, Wisconsin, Colorado, and Nevada. Mr. Lesniak’s representation of banks, mortgage lenders, and other business clients includes matters in state and federal trial courts as well as handling appeals in the state and federal courts, including the Illinois Appellate Courts, the Illinois Supreme Court, and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Among his prominent experiences, Mr. Lesniak was the lead counsel in the case of EMCMortgage Corporation v. Kemp, 2012 IL 113419, 982 N.E. 2d 152, 367 Ill. Dec. 474 (Illinois S. Ct. 2012) (restraining the right of a defendant to appeal a foreclosure judgment before the final order has been entered in the case)

Mr. Lesniak has previously been involved in serving on the boards of such community organizations as neighborhood homeowners associations and not-for-profit corporations associated with the arts. Mr. Lesniak is a semi-regular, guest co-host of the radio program “Ireland Tonight” broadcasting from the College of DuPage on WDCB-FM.
