Profile

Helen M. Hapner is an associate in the Firm's Litigation group where she supports client service efforts with research as well as drafting pleadings for state and federal court. She also supports mediation and deposition efforts. She earned her B.A. in Political Science and Spanish Literature from Knox College in 2011 and her J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2016. During law school, Helen served as an articles editor for The Elder Law Journal and teaching assistant for Tort Law.

Prior to law school, Helen was an intern in the pro bono department of Mayer Brown. She was a summer associate at the Firm during the summer of 2015 and served as a legal intern for the United States Department of Justice in the Executive Office for Immigration Review in the summer of 2014.

Experience

  • Drafted various pleadings in federal and state court relating to commercial and tort litigation matters
  • Drafted opinions on behalf of Immigration Judges in connection with asylum, withholding of removal, and convention against torture cases
  • Researched and prepared memoranda on the immigration consequences of criminal convictions
