Profile

Jake Jumbeck is an associate in Burke, Warren, MacKay & Serritella’s Litigation and Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy groups. He supports client service efforts with research as well as drafting pleadings for state and federal court. Jake earned his B.A., summa cum laude, from Marquette University and his J.D., with honors, from Emory University School of Law.

While in law school, Jake was a member of the Homer Drake Jr. Georgia Bankruptcy American Inn of Court, a teaching assistant for first year legal writing, and the Editor-in-Chief of the Emory Bankruptcy Developments Journal. His comment, “Complexity” As the Gatekeeper to Equitable Mootness, was published by the journal. He was a summer associate at the Firm during the summer of 2016. 

Experience

  • Represented an aerosol can-end die manufacturer in an international arbitration concerning a breach of contract claim involving an engineering dispute with a Chinese product supplier.
  • Representing WTE-S&S/AG Enterprises in its Chapter 11 case in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
  • Representing CC Care LLC and its subsidiaries in their consolidated Chapter 11 cases in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
  • Representing an individual in his Chapter 11 adversary proceeding against his secured lender.
  • Representing a food safety and quality testing company in state court concerning breach of contract and Computer Fraud and Abuse Act claims.
  • Representing a municipality in state court concerning breach of contract and ejectment claims involving an encroachment dispute.
  • Conducted legal research and drafted over fifteen legal memoranda on numerous legal issues including how Illinois courts have applied Uniform Commercial Code § 3–418; distinctions between Illinois and Federal Rules of Evidence 404(b), 608, and 609; applying bulk sales tax provisions to single-asset LLC real estate sales; and calculating threshold sales for fractional franchises.
  • Created a litigation timeline in a commercial dispute from over three years of communications between the parties.
  • Drafted amendments to pharmaceutical distribution contracts, operating agreements for a national real estate developer, and a real estate development agreement.
