Profile

Kara Bufalino is an associate in Burke, Warren, MacKay & Serritella's Corporate, Health Care and Real Estate groups. Ms. Bufalino earned her B.A. in English, cum laude, and her Teacher Education Certification from the College of the Holy Cross in 2010 and her J.D., magna cum laude and Order of John Marshall, from the John Marshall Law School in 2014.

During law school, Ms. Bufalino served as the Articles Editor of The John Marshall Law Review and was a board member of the Professionalism & Engagement Student Advisory Board. She was also a judicial extern for a magistrate judge at the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Experience

  • Assisted with the merger and reorganization of an Illinois corporation and its subsidiaries
  • Researched state and federal securities laws in connection with an employee stock ownership plan to be offered by a foreign parent company to a U.S.-based subsidiary
  • Drafted a variety of agreements and contracts for the development of a South Carolina horse park
  • Conducted a due diligence review, drafted ancillary documents, and assisted with the closing in the stock purchase of a lumber company
  • Participated in the acquisition of a parcel of land from a condominium association including communicating with the Board of Directors and property management team and attending a town hall meeting with the owners regarding the proposed sale
  • Assisted in a fifty-state research survey on telemarketing laws for a publicly traded company
  • Regularly drafts and reviews agreements, amendments, consents, and resolutions for a variety of clients and a wide-range of transactions
  • Regularly facilitates the formation, reorganization and merger of corporations and limited liability companies

  • Ms. Bufalino has previously participated in the Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago’s “Lawyers in the Classroom” program, teaching children about our judicial system through a mock trial.
  • Ms. Bufalino is a member of the Chicago Bar Association.
  • Ms. Bufalino is a member of the Loyola Academy Bar Association and serves as a mentor in the Loyola Academy College Mentor Program.
  • Ms. Bufalino is on the Associate Board at the Legal Prep Charter Academy.
