Burke, Warren, MacKay & Serritella is proud to announce Alex Marks has been elected as Associate Judge in the Cook County Circuit Court in Chicago, Illinois. Alex was one of 14 candidates selected as a finalist for the position from nearly 100 applicants by the Court’s Nominating Committee led by Chief Judge Charles S. Beach II. Each applicant was thoroughly evaluated by the Chicago Bar Association and the Alliance of Bar Associations before all circuit court judges cast their votes to select the associate judges. Of the 14 finalists, only seven were elected to this year's Associate Judge class.

“I am truly honored to be entrusted with the responsibility of serving as an associate judge,” said Alex. “I am humbled and grateful for all of the encouragement and support I have received throughout this process from family, friends, and my longtime colleagues at Burke Warren, and I will continue to uphold the highest standards of the legal profession within the Court.”

As a seasoned litigator, trial attorney, arbitrator, and devoted pro bono advocate, Alex is highly regarded by clients, judges, and opposing counsel not only for his exceptional legal acumen, but for his integrity and character in the legal landscape.

“Alex’s journey with the Firm—from summer associate to accomplished litigator—reflects not only his exceptional legal skill, but also his deep commitment to living up to the highest standards of the legal profession,” said Managing Partner Jeff Warren. “He is a trusted advocate, a respected Firm leader and mentor, and an unwavering champion of pro bono service. We’ll certainly miss him at the Firm, and we’re incredibly proud to see him take on this role. He is an outstanding choice for the judiciary.”

Alex began his legal career as a summer associate at Burke Warren in 2003 and advanced from associate to partner during his tenure with the Firm. Alex proudly serves as President of the Decalogue Society of Lawyers, America’s oldest Jewish Bar Association dedicated to serving the legal community throughout Illinois. Alex is also an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association, serving as a Commercial Litigation, Consumer Disputes, and Labor and Employment panelist. In addition, Alex is the Chair of the Firm's Pro Bono Committee and devotes significant time representing indigent clients in a variety of pro bono matters.

Please join us as we congratulate Alex and all the newly elected judges to the Court in 2026, and as we thank Alex for 23 outstanding years he has served Burke Warren and its clients.
