Burke, Warren, MacKay & Serritella is pleased to welcome Madeleine J. Coate as an Associate to the Firm’s Restructuring, Insolvency, and Bankruptcy practice.

Madeleine focuses her practice on the representation of clients in complex Chapter 7 and 11 bankruptcy matters, including debtor representation, secured and unsecured creditors, and trustees. She regularly assists clients with a wide range of restructuring and insolvency issues, including preference and fraudulent conveyance avoidance actions, damages claims arising from rejected executory contracts and leases, and confirmation issues in Chapter 11 and Subchapter V cases.

Prior to joining Burke Warren, Madeleine practiced at a creditors’ rights firm, where she handled motion practice and negotiated resolutions with debtors and the Trustee in consumer bankruptcy cases. She also clerked for bankruptcy judges in the Northern District of Illinois and the Central District of California, and most recently for Honorable Jacqueline P. Cox, Chief Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Illinois. There, she drafted and edited opinions on non-debtor protections post-Purdue Pharma, non-dischargeability, and discovery issues.

Madeleine received her J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School, where she was a member of the legal honor society Phi Delta Phi, was a semi-finalist in Moot Court, and served on the Moot Court Board.
