Burke Warren is proud to share that four attorneys from the Firm have been named as recipients of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois’ Award for Excellence in Pro Bono and Public Interest Service in 2026. The Court, together with the Chicago Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, recognize and honor lawyers who have served the community by providing pro bono representation and advocacy for noteworthy causes within the district.

Alexander Marks, Joshua Cauhorn, Shana Shifrin, and Blake Roter partnered with Aneel Chablani and Beatriz Diaz-Pollack of the Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights to bring claims on behalf of a local mother on behalf of herself and her son against a hospital. The suit alleged that the hospital discriminated against them based on their race.

Burke Warren’s pro bono team was creative, persistent, and sensitive to its client’s desire for a solution that acknowledged the harm suffered by her family while calling for substantive and positive changes. The legal services provided by Burke Warren and the Chicago Lawyers' Committee were pursued in the tradition of impactful pro bono service in the Northern District of Illinois.
